I’m a sucker for soaps, lotions, and other skincare products that smell good. Combine that with an interesting brand history and beneficial ingredients, and I’m instantly hooked!
The morning I received six different variants of Kala Milk Soap, I immediately opened one (it was Lemongrass) and used it for my bath (which is why I wasn’t able to take a photo of that variant anymore).
The interesting thing about it is that it’s the first-ever specialty bath soap made from local carabao’s milk. Now, if there’s any dairy product that’s very close to my heart, it’s carabao’s milk.I grew up drinking carabao’s milk. My family’s province (both my mom’s side and my dad’s side) is Nueva Ecija, and it was in visiting our province often that I learned how to drink carabao’s milk in a mug (with a little bit of salt), and eat it with rice, sugar, and tuyo.
Carabao’s milk is also the main ingredient of my mom’s small business, Mama Jessie’s Kesong Puti, where she produces and supplies kesong puti to several deli stores and renowned restaurant chains in Metro Manila. For the last two years, I’ve been helping her with the branding, marketing, public relations, and business development so that more and more people are able to try the goodness of her kesong puti.
Naturally, when I found out that Kala Milk Soap was made with carabao’s milk, I was immediately drawn to it and knew right away the benefits that came along with it—including its intense moisturizing properties.
Apart from carabao’s milk, it contains essentials oils such as lavender, green tea, and lemon grass, which provide additional benefits for the mind and body.
Their products are made with natural ingredients and doesn’t harm the environment. Operated by TJ and Nerlie Gonzales, a couple with strong roots in Baliuag’s agricultural community, their family operates the business with the support of the Baliuag community. Nerlie oversees the production and operations while TJ secures the supply of carabao’s milk from local farmers. And here’s the best thing about their company: the couple has pledged to donate Php 1.00 of each sale in building a scholarship fund for the farmers’ children!It’s truly an amazing pledge, and I want to show my support by sharing this with you guys.
