Hello Gorgeous Detox Facial Mask Review

Hey, everyone! I’m back with another product review! It’s been a while since I last wrote one, and I am honestly so excited to be talking about my newest skincare holy grail.

If you follow me on Instagram or watch my stories frequently, you’ll know how obsessed I am with facial masks. I regularly use different kinds—from Glamglow, to Peter Thomas Roth, to Aztec.

Depending on my skin’s need, that’s how I usually rotate my masks. For example, if I need extra hydration, I go for Peter Thomas Roth‘s Cucumber Gel Mask or Blue Algae Mask. Or if I want brighter skin, I normally take out Glamglow’s Gravity Mud. For both decongesting and hydrating, Peter Thomas Roth’s Irish Moor Mud Mask does the job.

However, the one mask I like to use often is Aztec’s Indian Healing Clay Mask—because I rode on the hype and tried to see how effective it would be in cleaning out my pores and drying out stubborn whiteheads and pimples. While I do see the results from using Aztec mixed with apple cider vinegar once a week (my complexion looks a tad brighter than usual the following day), I feel like it’s not enough. At least for me. And I don’t know if it’s because for one, I never felt it pulsate (like people say it does), two, I already had high expectations when I bought the product from Healthy Options a few months ago, three, it takes so long to dry, and lastly, it was so strange for a product to make me look like a ripe tomato every time I washed it off after 15 minutes of use. I’m not saying I don’t like it or that it’s not effective. It just didn’t wow me the way I expected it to the very first time that I used it.

Unlike this new mask that I had just bought from Calyxta. *drum roll please* The Hello Gorgeous Detox Facial Mask. I first saw it when the products were delivered to our headquarters, and I immediately found myself attracted to the adorable packaging. I posted on my Instagram stories that Hello Gorgeous was now available on Calyxta, and two people instantly replied and said they found their Detox Facial Mask to be better than Aztec’s Indian Healing Clay Mask. Naturally, like any skincare-obsessed gal, I all the more gravitated towards the product and bought one for myself. Of course, I bought other things, too, so that I wouldn’t have to pay for shipping fee. Haha!

I first tried it last November 29 right before going to sleep, to prep my skin for an extra busy long weekend. I attended a baby shower and was booked for a personal makeup workshop on Friday, spent the whole Saturday with the Cupcake’s clan in Alabang (where we watched the Ateneo-UP Finals Game 1 together), and had lunch with one of our wedding’s principal sponsors and finished errands on Sunday.

The first thing I noticed about the product when I applied it using my dedicated mask brush was that it smelled strongly of charcoal. Super, duper strong! To the point that I didn’t want to apply the mask anymore. But I told myself that maybe I shouldn’t judge a product based on its scent, so I applied it anyway—starting from my forehead, down to my nose, then my cheeks, and lastly my chin and jaw. I let it sit for ten minutes, since the instructions said so. And unlike the Aztec mask which takes forever to dry, this one started drying up as early as five minutes!

When I washed it off, I noticed that my skin’s complexion already looked brighter. The next morning, when I looked at my reflection in the mirror, I had to do a double take—because the blackheads that I remember seeing the previous night seemed to be missing! Plus, because I have oily skin, I’m used to waking up with an extra oily forehead. But that morning after using Hello Gorgeous’ Detox Facial Mask, my forehead was matte. MATTE. Imagine my excitement! I texted the Calyxta Crew right away and told them about my wonderful discovery.

Since then, I’ve used the mask twice. And I love waking up with bright, clean-looking, matte skin. I know I haven’t really used it long enough to say that it’s the best mask I’ve ever tried, but if I’ll constantly wake up blackhead-free and oil-free, then I wouldn’t mind repurchasing this mask over and over. It’s only PhP 300 for a jar, and if I use it twice a week, I think it’s enough to last me a few months.

So that’s my review of the Hello Gorgeous Detox Facial Mask, and I hope that if you do decide to buy this product, it gives you the same results! If you’ve already tried it, let me know your thoughts in the comments!
